Against the great urban actions in the common challenge of constructing City, we must claim the relevance of improving the most basic housing unit with small mutations such as the renovation in Ruzafa, Valencia by the studio DG Arquitecto.
There are two aims in an intervention like this; Improve the conditions of habitability and health and adapt the space to the needs of the client. In order to influence in what is collective, it is necessary to understand independancy and particularities of each part. Differences enrich the relational space and give sense the formation of communities. This sociological argument can be applied directly to the physical space in which the community develops at all scales.
The isolated and differential transformation of the most intimate space must be the foundation of the construction of the City
The renovation in Ruzafa of this small apartment serve to the client’s concerns, which are to get a bright and spacious living-dining space, a master bedroom, a small studio and a spacious kitchen. A challenge considering that the words spacious and luminous were not precisely descriptive of the previous state of the flat: Heavily compartmentalized with small and poorly lit rooms.
The approach of DG Arquitecto is based on the removal of physical limits (walls) to use other types of resources as perceptive limits to allow the passage of light. A portico that is exposed divides the living area from the dining room and the pavement change delimits the kitchen area. Access to the studio and the bedroom of this renovation in Ruzafa is made from this main space to gain the square meters of a possible distributor that does not seem necessary.
Intelligently designed furniture also helps one of the main premises of the renovation in Ruzafa of free space. It also integrates with walls and ceilings thanks to the white color that also helps the reflection of light. For the pavement uses wood throughout the apartment except in the wet areas, kitchen and bathroom, where the architect sets hydraulic tile with vivid colors that gives a cheerful and very personal touch.Photography by Mariela Apollonio
