Photovoltaic cell = solar panel? No! Marjan Van Aubel in collaboration with Michael Graetzel lab changed the resulting product with two design possibilities: photovoltaic Layers and The energy collection. This a glassware collection that by its interaction with light (direct or indirect) gathers energy, and later when you place them in the energy collection cabinet (which works as a battery) it harvest and distribute the energy to use it on your electronic devices.
An interesting characteristic of The energy collection is that each glass is generating a different type of energy according to its colour. Marjan explains that “Different colours mean different properties. Each colour has a unique wavelength and collects different currents. For example, blueberries and raspberries have their own voltages and levels of efficiency according to the colour spectrum.”

Design can transcend the boundaries of form and function when its propose is serving humanity by recognising the nature as part of its system. I personally find The energy collection an outstanding design work that reaches social and environmental goals. [vimeo 44201522 w=500 h=281]
