500 SQM Nursery is the refunctionalization of a large and open area. In an existing building, located on the surroundings of Berlin, a ground floor originally intended for commercial use is restored. The architectural office Jan Rösler Architekten takes as an inheritance the most remarkable elements of the previous project to reflect in its reform the essence of its initial idea.500 SQM Nursery used to be only one space on the ground floor, but to fulfill its new functionality it was necessary to generate some divisions. In order not to interrupt the visibility and spatial transparency, backbone of the project, all the doors, windows and inner walls are disposed to build corridors and to generate a flowing transversely circulation. The panels rotate completely, allowing visual permeability between the áreas. Such facilities gets to delimitate spaces discreetly without invading or enclosing the place. This accomplishes that; the cafeteria, the main hall, circulations and services are interconnected.
500 SQM Nursery proposes a different space, to estimulate the inner creativity
The unique and glazed facade of 500 SQM Nursery, remains intact, wich allows to integrate all the areas and to bring inside the outside garden. The capture of light comes directly from the main facade and conquer every corner of 500 SQM Nursery. Being entirely painted white and maintain transparency in meny of its walls, makes that every place shares the light with the other ones. The perfect organization and coordination of constructive and framing elements produce a great harmony. The fact of align the columns, frames, walls and doors, help to orientate and find serenity, an organization that above all, makes easier the user to relate and identify itself with the place.
It is common to find that places for children are designed and decorated with a large, intense and shrill repertory of shapes and colors, looking to boost the senses of its little users. On the contrary, in 500 SQM Nursery, the proposal works the other way, the child will not be distracted by outside stimuli, he has to use his tools to find the ability to create on his own. Thus, the creativity of the inner imagination is activated and plotted on this white environment.
