Blanc i Negre is a restaurant located in Ontinyent, a town in the south of Valencia, in Spain. Ramón Esteve’s studio has been assigned to transform a classic restaurant; “lifelong” bar into a fresh and modern space, without losing the essence of the local cuisine.
To carry out a restoration for a local like Blanc i Negre, it is vital to understand the nature of the preexisting place, strongly bound to its environment;. as well as the meaning of its traditional cuisine, in order to thrust them in an attractive and energic renovation.
The original structure, partition walls and even internal distribution, has not been modified. The restaurant is divided into two well differentiated areas, by its use and characteristics: a bar with tall chairs that has a more accessible apparience and restaurant area. The result is a perfect blend between warmth and elegance of a complete culinary experience.
The diamond-shaped faceted geometry of the tiling from the Faces collection by L’Antic Colonial, also designed by the studio itself, make the walls rhythm dynamic, exquisitely combined with the original place. The ceramic flooring in tempered beige, combined with the golden sparkling lamps and the black marquina marble texture providing a sophisticated and restful support to the intervention.
Submerged in a wrapping white space and in contrasting to the soft and controlled geometric linings of its window entrance, lighting and furniture; invades in an insinuating way the sinuosity of the bar’s counter.
Respecting the concept of tradition and modernity is a primordial strategy, that gives structure to the restaurant’s design and to its corporative image. These concept is impregnated from its spacing materials and furniture selections, to the graphic design in the menu, logo and bottle tags. A sincere reflection of the congruence of the multidisciplinary team work.
