During the Tokyo Design Week, the Japanese studio Nendo wanted to raise through the Border Table collection a new way of conceiving the design of furniture. The project, halfway between installation and conceptual furniture is exposed in the gallery “Eye of Gyre”.
Designed by Yuki Funakoshi and Marina Ike, Border Table breaks with the concept of furniture designed in series to become an element that is designed thinking about the space to be located. Each element is adapted to the forms that are normally troublesome for placement of furniture such as corners, columns or pillars, giving these the final design shape.
“Border Table utilizes the element of space as a part of its structure by “parasitizing” on to the corners or edges of the walls, the edge of the floor and exhibition stands”.
Table Border consists of a metallic bar profiles 5mm square section, highlighting hugging the edges or corners as a parasitic element. Small circular 100mm diameter surface gives the project functionality.
