House in trees, is a family house located in Tơ Sơn, Bắc Ninh city, Vietnam. This is an area characterized by fast industrialization that, unable to face the consequences of its urbanization, leads to several contamination problems. The local architecture studio Nguyen Khac Phuoc Architects develops this project looking to recover the natural past of this place. On a very narrow ground, grows House in trees, with five storeys and in a small area of 14x49ft. As its name indicates, this is a project of great verticality, from the facade can be guessed this first relation with trees and nature. The house is designed for a couple and their two children. Therefore it houses three bedrooms with bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and laundry, garage and a playroom; A home destined to improve the life quality of its users.
House in trees looks for a constant contact between nature and architecture
As a premise for the development of House in trees was to recover nature in the interior of the house and to generate a barrier that isolates and protects the family from the city harmful effects. To achieve this, it is proposed to subtract ftwo voids rom the volume, those will become into courtyards. The first is at the entrance and serves as a wall and doser of natural light. The second on the other hand, is full of natural elements. Located in the center of the house, it functions as a window to the outside, where all the natural agents such as wind, rain and trees fill the interior.
In this same place are also the stairs which connects the rooms, through this, the users walk around the place next to nature climbing the stairs like if they were climbing a tree. In this neuralgic point the public areas of House in trees are located, from where also it is possible to accede to the yard, getting in real contact with nature.
The green color on this yard, is also the only color touch of the house, which combines harmonically with the white of its walls. To ensure this persistence of green, in the interior some terraces are designed, with the aim of always maintaining a visual contact towards nature. It could seem like trees are opening their way into the building.
The central idea for House in trees, is to cross the space, both vertically and horizontally, step by step with nature. Its presence appears in every moment, in its simple and minimalist architecture, grows a home designed with the natural environment. A house that borns looking for a balance between the natural and the urban world, and it is through its resemblance with trees that it achieves this soft and delicate balance.
