Architects Bruno Lucas Dias and Jorge Pimenta have completed the interior refurbishment of an existing store located in the municipality of Ansião, in Leiria District, Portugal. Palco Dos Sentidos is a project that sets out from a basic premise: to make the most efficient possible use of natural light.
Palco Dos Sentidos is an oasis, a space devoted to leisure and entertainment. A recreation centre that provides its customers the chance to escape from the daily routine, to contact with different communities and to explore its recreational needs.
Palco Dos Sentidos is a multi-purpose recreation centre that provides its customers an element of renewal, of rupture with stagnation and routine.
While the existing openings inside Palco Dos Sentidos remained untouched and were kept in their original location, all circulation was reduced to a single central axis. This axis ‘carries’ the daylight, creating a light path. The axis is reinforced by a series of programme areas that can be closed off creating more individual and private spaces or can be opened into one single space.
