Poblenou House is a restored house located in Barcelona, Spain. Intrinsic in the gridded Cerda urban planning, for the catalán neighborhood: “eixample”, we found a main floor with its interior yard. Both concepts are key to intervene this work, It has been taken into account by the Cavaa architecture office. Cavaa.
The ground floors of buildings, often tend to be lacking of lighting spaces, receiving only a few rays of light filtered by the dense urbanization. Poblenou House is not an exception to this rule. That is why has been sought the root of the project, strengthening its weak point.Poblenou House invites the courtyard to enter the home and composes all the other areas; kitchen and dining merge into a single space, giving opening and more light to the place. The volume of the yard entering and all the new carpentry, manteins the same material and language, thus the boundary separating inside from outside it is strong enough to integrate both places identity. In like manner this intervention has a sort of “eco” in the design of the furniture that serves to connect the interior spaces.
Poblenou House do not hide its intervention, makes it evident to achieve integration.
The vaulted ceiling has been preserved, and has certain openings where they had to lower the ceiling. This way of composing repeats as a wink, the same language that keeps the design intervention on the patio and furniture. With a strong geometric basis, this concept invades every visual, relating as layers, the new and original work. The materials at home poblenou are related by the impact. At first sight they seem not to coexist. Their presence is sincere, the entry of courtyard and the details of the unions are explicit. The mixture is in the new and the old. The truth is in the integration. The materiales do not seek to amalgamate and go unnoticed, but to live each with its own identity.
The restoration of Poblenou House is designed with the same criteria to connect its spaces. In the Intervened areas, the house suffer for spacial stangulation, a condition that is resolved thanks to the architects because of the coherence and consistency of the project composition. They have managed to relocate from the heart of the project, abstracting the house as a closed object.
